The most important commands in dog training
When it comes to teaching your four-legged friend something, the possibilities are nearly endless. Sit, down, out, paw, speak are just a few commands you can practice. A meaningful dog training also includes things like relaxation training, leash manners, or staying alone. For a harmonious coexistence, you should definitely practice the following things:
Command "Stay"
The stay command is about being able to place your four-legged friend somewhere and he waits until you come back. For example, if you want to quickly grab something but your dog should wait for you, you can park him in the stay position. He also learns to endure, to be patient, and simply to wait.
You can start the training with a place assignment, for example on a blanket and on a leash. The leash serves as a kind of anchor that you simply place next to him. It signals to your dog that it is now a time for a break.
Recall or also "Hiiiiere"
The recall is one of the most important commands. When you call your dog, he should come. And not leisurely finish sniffing that patch of grass. A rock-solid recall also helps you in critical situations, for example, when your dog suddenly wants to chase after other four-legged friends like deer, rabbits, or his dog buddy. Reliable recall training takes a lot of time and patience. To protect yourself, your furry friend, and others, you should always use a long line during free running until then.
Tip: Especially for the recall, it is always worth having the best treats in your pocket. Our →pâtés in a tube are a real treat and the perfect reward for recall training.
Leash manners
Just like recall training, →leash manners cannot be learned in a week. However, if you don't want to be pulled through the park and into every bush by your furry friend, you should also train consistently and patiently here.
Staying alone
Most dogs cannot stay alone well without a bit of practice. This is because dogs are pack animals and do not like to be separated from their group. Therefore, it is even more important to gradually build up staying alone. Even if you are inseparable, do not let your four-legged friend stick to your side 24/7. You can start by having him stay alone in a room for a short time and gradually increase that.
Your dog doesn't have to stay alone because he can go everywhere with you? Sooner or later, the day will come when you cannot take your furry friend with you, for example, to a doctor's appointment. To ensure that he doesn't have to wait at home completely stressed, it is worth training staying alone early on.
Relaxation training
Dogs love to be cuddled and entertained, to discover things, and to always be involved. That’s why many four-legged friends first need to learn to relax. Relaxation training is about your dog not doing anything else but resting. This sounds easier than it is for most furry friends. Because enduring boredom without chew toys or other distractions needs to be learned.
It is important that your dog can calm down well. Only when he is rested can you give it your all in training again. An overexcited dog is also quickly stressed. Just like us humans, your darling needs a forced break every now and then.
Brushing teeth, grooming, cleaning ears
Of course, you should also regularly subject your dog to a certain spa program. Things like brushing teeth, cleaning ears, and grooming the coat should be practiced. It is best to start as early as possible. Because if your four-legged friend falls ill and relies on your care or regular medication, he is already used to being touched by you everywhere (even in the mouth).
