Character and Nature

With its graceful, gentle nature, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a welcome companion - whether hunting or as an everyday companion, this four-legged friend is versatile with its multifaceted character.

Its temperament should not be underestimated when it comes to territorial behavior and protection. Once it has settled in with its owners and in its own four walls, it likes to protect its belongings, which can lead to impulsive behavior towards strangers and other dogs.

Outside its territory, the Rhodesian Ridgeback reveals itself to be a reserved, somewhat suspicious dog breed.

Training and Care

Due to its size combined with a pronounced protective instinct, training requires a true expert's hand that knows how to handle the Ridgeback. If consistent training and guidance of its defensive tendencies do not start from day one, a strong, stubborn dog will emerge that hardly cooperates with its owners.

With a lot of perseverance and training with little pressure that motivates the Rhodesian Ridgeback, this four-legged friend becomes a loving, gentle companion that is up for any fun. Due to its considerable size, keeping one is only advisable if there is sufficient experience with the breed and enough space available. The Ridgeback would appreciate its own little green patch next to the house.
