Character and Nature

The possibly →fluffiest smallest dog breed hides behind its furry facade a bundle of energy of the extra class. Unlike the physical size of the Pomeranian, its character certainly does not end just below the knee - for the little four-legged friend is apparently unaware of its small height, when you have experienced it yourself.

With its confident, loud, and alert demeanor, it confronts every dog - regardless of whether Chihuahua or Wolfhound. Despite its pronounced alertness, its prey drive is only low to medium. Due to its diverse interests, it is anything but a couch potato or a dog for the handbag - from agility to long forest hikes to varied ball games, the little Pomeranian needs a lot of exercise in everyday life. Even the →Pomeranian puppies are confident little bundles of energy that want to be kept busy a lot and happily.

Due to its friendly and open nature, the Pomeranian quickly grows into a loyal and affectionate companion for its person(s).

Training and Care

The Pomeranian impresses with its cuddly appearance and loyal round eyes. However, the training of small dog breeds should not start too late, but already in puppy age.

For the Pomeranian, early socialization with other, even large dogs is important, so that the little four-legged friend learns to better assess its size and gets used to a calm interaction with conspecifics. From the beginning, it needs a lot of exercise and clear boundaries for its behavior. Due to its willingness to learn, it is ready to quickly and gladly adopt commands.

Since the Pomeranian is very attached to its person, it is only reluctant to be alone. Therefore, early training must take place in case of daily absence, in which the furry friend is accustomed to being alone. However, like all dog breeds, the Pomeranian should not be left alone for too long. Keeping a Pomeranian in a household with small children is conditionally suitable and only if the little furry friend has a retreat that it can go to when feeling stressed. For this reason, keeping it is more advisable if older children live in the household.
