Our Feeding Recommendations

A look at the back of your pet's food package will surely reveal that you find a lot of information about the respective food there: the nutritional values and also the daily feeding amount, the so-called feeding recommendation.

But what exactly is this feeding recommendation about, and how do you know what the right amount for your pet is?

The Right Amount of Food

A feeding recommendation is - as the name suggests - merely a rough guideline that you can orient yourself to. This is especially helpful when you are changing your pet's food and have no experience with the new food yet. How much food a cat needs per day depends on many different factors: size, body condition (i.e., weight), body structure, amount of fur, age, and especially of course activity level. Young and very active animals require more energy than animals that tend to stroll through life leisurely. To optimally care for your cat, we recommend →our wet food for cats, which is tailored to individual needs.

As Individual as Every Pet

In our feeding recommendations, we orient ourselves to the European standard set by the European Pet Food Federation, short FEDIAF. This standard was developed based on scientific studies and establishes the average daily energy requirement for dogs and cats. Our feeding recommendations apply according to FEDIAF for:

🐱 Active cats with ideal weight (e.g., outdoor cats)

Important to know: When calculating the feeding recommendations, it is always assumed that your cat exclusively eats this food and that the daily energy requirement is fully covered by this one food. Snacks are not included in this calculation!

If you are doing a mixed feeding, for example, feeding wet food in the morning and dry food in the evening, you should remember to adjust the recommended daily amounts accordingly, i.e., for example, to halve them. If you spoil your furry friend with many snacks or training treats in between, you should reduce the main food amount accordingly to keep your pet at an ideal weight and healthy.

Neutered cats and indoor cats typically need only about 3/4 of the energy (and thus also only 3/4 of our respective feeding recommendation) that outdoor or unneutered cats require.

Despite all the theoretically calculated feeding recommendations, remember that every animal has a different metabolism and individual energy needs. So if you have already found your optimal food amount, then stick with it – no matter what the packaging says.
