How to Keep Your Cat Active at Home

When every day is the same during →Corona, and you’re dozing on the sofa with your furry friend 24/7, and even she knows all the series by heart, it’s time for a little more activity in your own four walls.**

Whether it’s workout with your cat, clicker training, or baking for your kitty: We provide you with tips for optimal engagement.

1. Workout with Your Cat

Even if your cat won’t sit on your yoga mat and do the sun salutation with you, you can definitely involve her in your workout. Cats love to be challenged in terms of their hunting instincts.

Whether during squats, push-ups, or sit-ups: Here you can playfully include your cat with a fishing rod. Move the rod rhythmically and in sync with your movements, with a toy at the end. Your cat will surely be interested and try to catch the toy.

2. Clicker Training for Beginners

A clicker - as the name suggests - makes a *"click" sound when used. It can help you teach your furry friend a specific behavior or to untrain it.*

You can also teach your cat commands like sit, down, and paw using the clicker. Here’s how:

For example, you give your cat the command 'Sit' and gently help her into the desired position while saying "Sit!" Then you present her with a treat along with the click sound. The click in conjunction with the reward signals to your indoor tiger: "I did something right."

Some furry friends learn quickly, while others take their time. The code words for the commands must always remain the same, just like your tone of voice. Create a good atmosphere for training, don’t put pressure on your cat, and keep the training sessions relatively short. To start, you train by clicking without a command and giving your cat a reward. This way, she will always associate something good with the clicker.

3. In the Home Bakery

Your cat not only enjoys healthy and tasty food but also a bit of variety. Homemade treats are filled with extra love - and your furry friend can sense that. With our recipe, you’re sure to bring a purr to her face:

Tuna Coins

🐔 250g →Tuna Fillet Menu

🥚 75g stiffly beaten egg whites

Mix both ingredients with a mixer and distribute the mixture in small dollops on a baking sheet. Now bake at 160°C top/bottom heat until well done. Keep an eye on the coins - baking time varies depending on the type of oven.

4. The Food Course

Another way to challenge your indoor tiger physically and mentally is the food course. For this, you need materials like:

- Boxes of various sizes

- Empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls

- Boxes with lids

- Socks

Now choose a longer route in your apartment and lay out the materials in order. You can cut holes in the boxes or assemble them as tunnels. In the boxes, rolls, socks, and containers, you now hide treats or dry food. Your furry friend may start cautiously and then become increasingly interested as she navigates the course.

Many house cats move too little with a feeding amount that is too high - this often results in obesity and the resulting diseases. Sufficient exercise contributes to your cat’s physical health and increases her energy expenditure. Therefore, you should always ensure enough activity.
