Character and nature
When you cross an eager-to-hunt Cocker Spaniel with an intelligent →Poodle, you get a smart four-legged friend that can keep you on your toes. It's no wonder that the Cockapoo is a little bundle of energy that enjoys an active lifestyle. However, with too much action, they can also easily get overexcited and then need some guidance to relax and calm down.
With its fluffy coat and sweet button eyes, you just want to cuddle this furry nose. Fortunately, most Cockapoos are very cuddly and also like to be touched and petted by children. In general, Cockapoos are considered very friendly, open-minded, and also compatible with other dogs.
Since this dog breed is a so-called →designer breed, character traits can vary. One Cockapoo may have particularly strong traits of the clever Poodle, while another may resemble a Cocker Spaniel more closely.
Training and care
As with any →smart dog breed, you should pay attention to consistent training from the very beginning with a Cockapoo. Otherwise, the clever four-legged friend might try to outsmart you or get into some trouble. With a bit of dog sense and attending a dog school, the breed is indeed manageable for →beginners.
Due to its open and friendly nature, the Cockapoo is also suitable for multi-dog households or as a →family dog. However, one should not underestimate the time this breed requires. Even though the four-legged friend is considered one of the easier breeds, it needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. If it is not properly occupied, the Cockapoo will find its own entertainment or tend to bark.
A shared hobby like agility, scent games, mantrailing, or other activities brings the four-legged friend a lot of joy. Training as a therapy or companion dog can also be an option for a Cockapoo.
Special features of Cockapoo coat care
The coat is curly, *sooo* soft and often the Cockapoo stands out precisely because of its adorable looks. The special feature of Doodle breeds is that they do not shed and therefore [→shed less](/magazin/hunde/hunderassen/hunderassen-die-nicht-haaren-rassen-und-tipps). Instead, their coat continues to grow, which makes regular haircuts an absolute must. Additionally, you should regularly brush your Cockapoo to prevent knots and matting of the fur.
